The LG 0

April 22nd, 2010

The LG GM750 is a smartphone for those on a budget. However, it’s certainly no slouch, and has the features to match the very top end devices currently on the market. It echoes the good looks of LG’s higher end smartphones, and many of the specs are similar, if not identical. The phone features a 3-inch touchscreen, which has become a necessity for smartphone developers to include. However, instead of taking advantage of Google’s Android operating system, the GM750 turns to Windows Mobile 6.5. There’s certainly much here to get excited about, especially the crystal clear 5 megapixel camera. It rivals the cameras in the likes of Apple and Blackberry products, and certainly makes a case for being one of the best around. The device also benefits from Wi-Fi capability and HSDPA 3G with downloads up to 7.2Mbps. In terms of design, the phone is similar to LG’s previous efforts, such as the popular ‘Cookie’, and the more recent LG Pop. The curved sides and corners make it seem sleek and small, which is good news for looking for an aesthetically pleasing smartphones. Other features include a VGA camera (for video calls), a light sensor and speaker, a volume rocker, a micro USB power slot, and a memory card slot. A nice addition is the ‘multitasking’ button, which shows users all their open apps at once – a good organisational feature. LG intend on being one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones by 2012, with a prediction that they’ll sell 140 million phones in 2010. Should they continue to release the likes of the GM750 they’ll definitely have a chance of reaching such heady heights. It’ll be interesting to note whether they take the route of the GM750 and use a Windows Mobile platform, or whether they defer entirely to Google’s Android.
